#I didn’t plan to make this gifset at first because I was sure it was done like bazillion times so far #but then I saw a post saying how doctor is forced to be with river and I was like ‘hm okay’ #because I do not understand it. how is he forced to be with her. #by saying he is forced to be with river you’re basically making him into a spineless bitch who has no saying in his life #and that is someone he is not #see the thing is he doesn’t have to be with river in any way. he didn’t have to come when she called him. #it was his choice. whether it was guided by curiosity or guilt - it was his choice. #the same with the marriage - he did not have to marry her. had he just told her his plan - she’d have gone with it. #she didn’t force him to marry her; she never suggested it. #he only had to touch her to restart the time. nothing else. he did not have to marry her - he chose to. #it’s the same way for river: she did not have to save him in berlin. she chose to do it. #and I think that river doesn’t need doctor in her life. she wants him in her life. #she doesn’t need him to build her life or to achieve anything (she becomes a doctor then a professor) #she’s also fully capable of living on her own and saving her own ass without his help #she doesn’t need to travel with him: she wants it. #and doctor wants her to travel with him and he asks for it more than once (once after utah and then after ponds’ departure)#because he also doesn’t need her in his life. he could do without her. #but he wants her to be with him. just as much as she wants to be with him. #so they go and they choose each other. over and over again.
